Bio:
Born in 1892 in Nurnberg, Germany. Father apothecary. In the pharmacy, Giselle meets Jean Martin, a french surgeon. She always had a lust for knowledge, and always wanted to study medicine which was possible in france. She leaves to france with her new husband, and studies medicine at the Sorbonne. Her husband dies in WorldWarI, one year after Giselle finishes her studies in 1916. 1917 Giselle meets a dutch hygiene specialist, her soon to be mentor, Alfred Grotjahn. She has taken up the subject of infection biology to write her dissertation in. Grotjahn takes her to Berlin. Being a big "hygenie freak", he teaches Giselle that everything has to be sterile in order to do proper experiments. Giselle maniacly uses disinfectants, until she develops a severe Neurodermatitis which leaves her hands wounded and bleeding often. Which leads to her always wearing lab gloves. And more disinfecting everything because of her own hands. and even worse neurodermatitis... and so on. That's why Giselle later on, as a vampire, always wears gloves, because those wounds never healed....
Giselle finishes her dissertation at the Institute for infectious diseases and tropical diseases in 1921, when she meets Helmut Ruska, her Mentor's new protege. In 1922 Grotjahn embraces Giselle. He nurtures her interest in science. Long story short, Ruska, the inventor of the electron microscope manages to actually see a virus, and Giselle's interest shifts to virology. During her childhood she keeps on studying - both vampire life as well as viruses. She is spoken free in 1939. Giselle stays in Berlin during WorldWarII, not really caring much for the outside world. The Tremere Chantry is located underneath the "Teufelsberg" in Berlin, where she studies and works with personalities like Mengele (a sadistic doctor) and Ferdinand Sauerbier (Hitler's surgeon). This time does influence her in a rather large way, even though she doesn't ever leave the chantry. It is a time, that allows for a lot of research. Nobody cares about lost people, and Giselle's research really progresses during that time. She is studying and researching viral survival and spreading mechanisms. In the 60ies Giselle's research starts to turn. Her intense study of viruses has lead her to find that a vampire and a virus are quite similar. Both are dependent on human blood in order to live instead of exist in an undead state. Both mask themselves to protect themselves from human detection. Giselle starts to believe that by combining Cainite-Magic with solid scientific research it should be possible to stop the effect of the thinning of vampiric blood. Her elders allow her to continue this path of research and send her to London, to study Biothaumaturgy. A forbidden path. A path practised by the black hand. Giselle shall never reveal that she knows this discipline of thaumaturgy, and has to vow to never betray her teacher. The new path of magic allows for her research to intensify. In the 90ies it is decided that Giselle has to start to mingle with the vampiric society instead of hiding and researching in the hideouts of House and Clan. She is introduced into society then. Even though she has climbed up in the pyramid of House and Clan to some extent - she is considered a High Apprentice - she feels like a child in some regards. The intricate dance of politics - allthough not totally unbekown to her - is somthing she never intensely studied. Which at times makes her feel rather helplesss. In the early twothousands her Elders decide, that mingling with human society would benefit Giselle's quest. An alternate identity is created. In 2008 "Dr Masters" - who officially studied medicine and after that biomedical sciences - starts her post doctoral time at London univeristy. She finishes her habilitation in 2013. Prof. Dr. Masters then starts to work at the Department of Virology at Birmingham University in late 2014.
I know this is a brief history, but Giselle's history mostly is about research. And i really don't wanna bore anybody to death with detailed stories about viral dna, mimicry, and so on.
I'lll add important (vampire) personalities she met though:
1913 Marie Curie, Paris, France (before Madame Curie's embrace)
1917 Alfred Grotjahn, Paris, France
1921 Helmut Ruska, Berlin, Germany
1940 Dr Mengele and Ferdinand Sauerbier, Berlin, Germany
1967 Wilson Smith, British Virologist, London, Great Britain
1982 Jean Lindenmann, Zurich, Switzerland
You can bet that Giselle survived her share of lab accidents, and since i don't wanna spoil the fun for all by plain out writing them down here I'll just say that I do have two beasttraits.... find them if you dare!
