The primary Chantry is located below Birmingham's city center library.
A new build, and somewhat distinctive.
The upper floors are much as you'd expect, more books and shelving than you can shake a stick at, the records office up on the first floor (or second floor as the americans call it)
The Chantry's entrance is hidden away in the "staff only" office section of the library. The entrance to the "Staff only section" is itself locked by key card much like a hotel room. Once through the door, there is a series of offices and supply rooms.
It is in this small section those with Auspex 2 will be able to see a door somewhat out of place. It's functionally no different from the others except it is shrouded in a simple ritual (suspension of Incantation - Sanguinary Affectation) this has been induced to make the door a concealed entrance. It acts much like obfuscate (lvl 1) in the fact that people just don't notice it is even there.
This descends to the lower level via a series of corridors, each leading steadily down and branching out into a honey comb of laboratories, libraries, offices and private rooms.
Following are a few of the major sections
The "Regents" door.
A large solid wooden door built into the foundations at the very lowest level of the chantry. This door is warded with some of the most potent magics directly applied to any major artifact in the entire structure.
It is locked by apparently simple iron locks older than most of the city. The regent has two iron keys on his person at all times. To those of a Thaumaturgical bent the door is inscribed with the following
- Suspension of incantation - Fortify The Solid Form
- Ward versus Kindred
- Ward versus Ghouls
- Ward versus Lupines
- Ward versus Spirits
It's final defense is a suspension of incantation Temportal (Hearth Path lvl 4). Should someone enter the doorway without giving the correct password they are transported to the front door of the library and back into the outside world. Somewhat upsetting for a kindred spy trying to sneak in during the daylight hours.
Beyond the doorway is something quite different to anything else in the modern build chantry. It is a cave like tunnel, remains of the first chantry built on the site centuries previously. It is lined with what were once cells to keep prisoners confined in, now they are hidden libraries, and cages.
At the far end of this solitary and crumbling series of cells is the main chamber. It is approximately thirty feet in diameter and it is the greatest prison in the chantry. It is home to the three bloodbound gargoyles of the chantry. The walls are made of stone, and each individual stone is inscribed with Ward vs Kindred. The room is almost perfectly circular, the gargoyles are leashed to the walls with reinforced chains of iron. In the floor at the center of the room is a single recess containing a brass cup.
The "Main Office"
It is nothing like an office of any variety. It is the primary shared library of the current residents. Lavishly lit and well stocked in numerous thaumaturgical and hermetic lore sources. These are openly available to all members of the chantry, however none are allowed off site under the orders of the local Lord. This ruling is strictly enforced.
The West Wing
This is the exclusive domain of Alois Schreiber. He is the cities sheriff and is accorded certain rights and privileges. This wing is a mash up of various labs and caging pens. It is somewhere between frankensteins lair and a steam punk nightmare dreamed up in Terry Pratchett's most absurd moments. It is completely off limits to anyone other than the Sheriff and the Regent.
