Past
From a small Welsh town deep in the countryside, Bryn worked at the wool
mills, maintaining the machines and moving the equipment and supplies. A
working man of strong standing in the community life was simple for Bryn.
An honest days work and an honest night of play. One night was different
though. For nights on end Bryn had been flirting with the new barmaid and
finally it was his lucky night. Invited to her bed Bryn thought he was lucky
as could be. The night did not go quite as he had expected. The days that
followed were a blur but everything had changed. His life was in ruins, a
vampire in a small village where everyone knows everyone, there was no
escaping notice. An outcast to his friends and family he fled into the
night. His sire had already vanished. Alone and without guidance the years
were hard for Bryn. Travelling across the country he encountered many
vampires and many situations. Having learned everything the hard way,
Bryn is lucky to have lived. What he did and didn't do to survive over the
years Bryn will not say and keeps close to his chest. But he is very careful
to make sure others do not have to go through things alone as he did.
Present
Commonly referred to as The Mountain, Bryn has built a small amount of
status for himself around being a friend to young and disenfranchised
kindred. His gruff exterior does little to hide his willingness to help people
and through word of mouth his reputation has spread. Currently based in
Birmingham he has set up in an old warehouse in a run down industrial
area, far from any residences. By day the warehouse is used as a gym by
working men who dont have the time or cannot afford a regular gym. At
night it is a meeting place for the clanless, the clueless and the various
other young kindred and ghouls seeking comraderie and a vent for their
frustrations. As the warehouse is also Bryn's home it's his rules which
apply and as such it has become a form of unofficial Elysium to the rabble
and downtrodden. The Mountain is nearly always here, overseeing events
and sharing his wisdom and knowledge with the younger cainites. Bryn
knows his position is a precarious one and is only permitted by the good
graces of The Prince and his Primogen Counsel but he also recognises that
whilst he is providing a distraction for the neonates and unwanted they
are not troubling the elders of the city. The help and advice he gives the
young ones is always centered on survival and The Mountain is a strict
advocate of the rules of the Camarilla. Whilst he has little interest in
building any form of power base for himself, some elders grow nervous of
his following and the concentration of younglings all in one place. Bryn is
no fool and knows the night will come when an Elder will take steps to
remove him from the equation, deciding his potential threat has outgrown
his usefulness. For now he bides his time, doing what he can to help those
he can.
The Warehouse
An unused an abandoned warehouse from one of many of the out of
business industries of Birmingham, Bryn managed to acquire the place
cheaply and set up a base here. From the outside the place is decrepit and
uninviting with very little to distinguish it as a place of note. Which is of
course just the way the Mountain wants it. To a handful of working
mortals who know it, they have a cheap gym to use which they wont find
in any advertisements or on any websites. For the Kindred population who
visit at night, carefully concealed messages in the graphitti covering the
outside wall, barely illuminated by the flickering street lights tell them all
they need to know. During the day the gym is run by a human associate of
Bryn, at night one of the neonates takes up the duty of guarding the
entrance to stop anyone from entering who shouldn't be there. Whilst all
are welcome, only kindred and ghouls are permitted at night. Inside the
warehouse is outfitted as a gym with basic but functional equipment.
Excercise bikes, weight machines, punch bags, weights, crash mats, rings,
etc. Nothing fancy or electrical, just straight forward mechanical gear.
The main floor of the warehouse is open and whilst one half contains all
the aforementioned equipment set up to work with, the other half has two
full sized boxing rings set up with roughly constructed wooden seating
set up to accomodate onlookers. Off to one side there is an entrance door
to the toilets and a stack of lockers and benches. A metal staircase runs
up one wall and leads to a gantry and mezzanine floor where Bryn keeps
his offices. All the high level windows have been boarded up and the floor
is lit by strip lighting. Other than the main workfloor there's a large metal
shutter door which leads to what was once a loading bay. Now it is a
workshop for Bryn full of tools and equipment of every kind. Worktops are
scattered with all manner of machine parts and pieces of equipment in
various states of assembly. This area also leads to what was once a
coldroom but is now Bryns sleeping area. Airtight, reinforced and
sunproof, Bryn locks himself in here during the day. Those that visit the
warehouse can get the advice they need from The Mountain and also work
out their tensions. Fights are common and supervised to make sure
neither side suffers unnecessarily. Because the gym is also Bryn's haven his
rules apply. Despite his friendly nature he will not tolerate blatant
rudeness or disrespect, nor will he tolerate theft, abuse of disciplines or
uncalled for violence. There will be no feeding within his haven. Those who
break his rules will soon find themselves on the hard end of a beating.
